  • The team left the city

    The team left the city

    Today the eighth group of this season left Mendoza. They will spend a night in Penitentes and tomorrow will begin to walk to get to Base Camp. They rode a van to Los Penitentes, the last bed and hot shower in two weeks for them.

    Before that we shared a meeting and a welcoming dinner in Mendoza where we all enjoyed the local food and the wines that Mendoza always offer.

    Five climbers and two guides began an experience that will surely change their lives. We wish them the best!

  • Almost there!

    Almost there!

    The team reach High Camp 19,200 ft today. They are at almost 6000 m! If the weather allows them tomorrow they will try to reach the summit. They will get up early and after breakfast they will begin the to the top of the highest peak outside of Himalayas.

    The team is feeling good, the long days spent working in the mountain have prepared the climbers for the effort.

  • 17,700 ft. – Camp II

    17,700 ft. – Camp II

    The team made it safely to Camp II. The group is highly motivated They are working hard and trying to gain altitude while keeping the energy.

    Mili says that the plan is to move to High Camp, at 19,600 ft, tomorrow, and then if all goes well go for the summit on Friday, depending on the conditions, the group, and other things. The forecast is a bit windy for these days but that does not diminish their motivation.

  • Carry to Camp I

    Carry to Camp I

    The team carried the loads to Camp I (15,750 ft.) yesterday. Mili said that everyone did well and are fine.

    They decided to rest today and move to that camp tomorrow. As we said, this technique helps with the acclimatization process

  • Plaza Argentina

    Plaza Argentina

    After hiking the Vacas Valley and the Relinchos Valley, the 6 climbers and 2 guides arrived today to Plaza Argentina (14200 ft).

    Everyone is fine, tomorrow they are going to rest and enjoy the comforts of Base Camp. They will also get ready for the carry to camp I. From here they will do a carry of gear and food to the next camp, come back to sleep at a lower altitude, then they move to the higher camp, where they spend a rest day to do the proper acclimatization process.

    The approximation trek has one of the most spectacular views of the mountain, the Polish Glacier, we are attaching a picture from a previous trip.

  • Delayed by a big storm

    Delayed by a big storm

    It was supposed that this group would be in Penitentes on Sunday but nature intervened . On Saturday there was a big storm in Mendoza that caused landslides that cut off the route between Penitentes and Mendoza and Park Authorities had closed the park. So the group decided to stay one more night in the city waiting for the road to clear the next day.

    The route was still cut yesterday so Mili and Pablo, the guides, took the group to Uspallata (8202ft) , a town that is on the way to Penitentes. Then the team could begin the process of acclimatization. They slept in a shelter near the mountain and enjoyed a delicious barbecue.

    The route opened this morning. The group is now in Penitentes where they will spend the last night with amenities like bed and shower and tomorrow they will start the three-day trek to the Base Camp.

    Despite the drawbacks the group is about to begin their adventure. Best of luck to them!

    We let a group photo before leaving the city and one of the route cut through the mud. Many machines worked to clear the way because there were many people who got stuck on the road. Luckily they were able to fix it quickly.

  • Back in Mendoza

    Back in Mendoza

    After reaching the Base Camp, Plaza de Mulas, on saturday the group went down to Penitentes on Sunday and yesterday they arrived to Mendoza. They were lucky because Penitentes to Mendoza route was cut off by landslides but we got a special permission to go look for them.

    So last night they enjoyed a very nice dinner in town with some wine to celebrate the incredible adventure that they had in the mountains.

    Congratulations to them again and to the guides for the good work done!

  • SUMMIT!

    SUMMIT!

    Rolo just called from the summit! The team is now enjoying the view from the highest point in America (22,834 ft).

    The group is going back to High Camp and will go to Plaza de Mulas base camp tomorrow, completing the Aconcagua Traverse, from there they will hike to the trailhead.

    Congratulations to all of them! A great achievement that they will remember for the rest of their lives.

    The team is carrying loads to Camp II (17,500 ft.) today. After that they will spend one more night at Camp I and then move to Camp II.

    Rolo said that everybody is fine and doing a great job. Besides the weather for the next few days is good, so they have the opportunity to continue rising calm.
